Sr. Manufacturing Equipment Engineer – Model 3 General Assembly | Tesla Fremont Factory | Aug 2023 – Present
Daily sustaining coverage of general assembly marriage, subframe, post-marriage and material conveyance equipment and executing projects to improve cycle time by 18% and maintaining performance above 99%.
Integrated critical changes to the subframe assembly process using FMEA and design notes for improvements in vehicle ride quality (Model 3 Highland Performance).
Established RCA creation for the GA3 Equipment team leading to quicker identification of bottlenecks further reducing unplanned production DT.
Overhauled all ball-screw lift equipment (6 x $250k) along the battery marriage and subframe lines and commissioned improved solutions from European suppliers to increase equipment availability to above 90% (20% increase)
Supported subframe and wheel assembly sub-structure build equipment (cast dies) and fixtures (datum, pallets, conveyance) for Cybertruck manufacturing in Giga Factory Austin.
Provided technical expertise as subframe SME for the launch of a new automated wheel assembly system for Cybertruck at Tesla Giga Austin.
Manufacturing Equipment Engineer – Model 3 General Assembly | Tesla Fremont Factory | Sep 2020 – Aug 2023
Commissioned new subframe drive unit racks and pallets to launch the latest generation Tesla Drive units for optimized automated robot assembly (FANUC and KUKA) within 4 months of PCA launch. The same solution was since replicated at Giga Factory Shanghai.
Overhauled entire subframe knuckle assembly equipment with updated equipment to increase availability from 65% to 85% and improve quality(1MiS) by over 35%.
Modernized subframe delivery line with upgraded equipment reducing conveyance time by 15% and downtime reduction by over 80% resulting in annual savings of $0.5M.
Worked closely with process, controls, production conveyance, NPI and other cross-functional teams to successfully complete over 20 improvement projects for an increase in OEE from 65% to 83% for GA3 line.
Launched updates to Model 3 General Assembly battery marriage, and subframe lines for production ramp-up to 45UPH.
Audited torque parameters and data curves (Atlas Copco Tool Maps) to prevent NC generation for automated tooling in subframe, marriage and post-marriage areas thereby increasing First Pass Yield (FPY).
Analyzed, prepared and presented KPI reports for subframe and post-marriage zones and identified road map to drive down roadblocks.
Used continuous lean manufacturing & Kaizen principles to improve UPH, ergonomics, PFMEA and OEE scores.
Graduate Summer Intern – Mechanical Engineer | Kenworth Truck Co. (PACCAR) | Jun 2019 - Sep 2019
Optimized the overhead hoist system by designing a stronger support structure using CAD and analysing for structural strength. It was implemented at the powertrain assembly area.
Integrated quality inspections for process and products into daily line inspections and time studies.
Diagnostic Engineer - Powertrain and Drivetrain Systems | BMW Bavaria Motors | Jan 2018 - Apr 2018
Identified issues raised by the customers and standardized methodologies for 15% faster and economical rectification of powertrain system related faults.
Accumulated several accolades while representing the franchise at various national level competitions held by the automotive society.
Mechanical Engineer | American Tank and Fabrication PVT Ltd | Aug 2016 - Jul 2017
Led the production, assembly, and erection of two linkspans and two pontoons weighing a total of 4000 MT to reduce travel time by over 60%.
Improved production rate by 80% by introducing multiple shifts and decreasing set up time by 30%.
Handed over the ABS-IV approved project 6 months ahead of time by leading the production team and quality control for the yoke, bank-seat bearings and above deck features of the pontoon and linkspan.
ACADEMIC PROJECTS
Team Lead - Development of an Optical Particle Sizer| Novosselov Research Group | Sep 2019 – Present
Designed a mechanical hardware enclosure for an optimized model of OPS to reduce noise from ambient light.
Reduced the dependency on Complex Refractive Index by using COMSOL Multiphysics to complete light scattering simulations and far field scattering analysis.
Prototyped the device using Fused Deposition Modelling, PCB Printing and Desktop CNC milling.
The design incorporated Design for Manufacturing and Assembly principles along with snap fit features.
Graduate Research Assistant - Rapid Tooling project | Boeing Advanced Research Centre | Sep 2018 – Jun 2019
Designed the tool for composite lay-up on CATIA that complies with 3ply and 4ply vacuum tests.
The final design of the tool was prototyped using carbon foam blocks bonded using proprietary sealant and primer which made it 45% lighter than conventional tools.
Analyzed TMA results and conducted flexure strength tests on rapidly setting castable ceramics samples.
Principle Investigator - Medical device | Human Photonics Lab | Sep 2018 – Jun 2019
Developed a prototype device to help prevent the formation of pocket hematoma after implantation of CIED.
The device was designed, tested and calibrated to maintain and apply pressure real time on a specified region.
Head of Operations - FSAE formula Team |Team Haya, PES Institute of Technology | Aug 2014 – Jul 2016
